About Us > Media > News > Apollo Munich to launch new product for diabetes

Mydigitalfc, December 02, 2013

With the launch of its retail product for diabetic patients, Apollo Munich Health Insurance has started providing specialised care for those affected by lifestyle diseases. Energy, which exclusively covers diabetes, will be initially rolled out in top eight cities.

The new product has an entry age of 18 to 65 years and provides life-long cover to patients affected by type II diabetes. The sum insured ranges from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
“Unlike other retail products, the new product does not have any waiting period. We are offering anytime service of ‘health guides’ along with the policy. Maintenance of key health parameters also will fetch the policyholder up to 50 per cent discount on renewal premiums. Of this, 25 per cent of premium will be discounted during renewal on maintaining key health parameters and reimbursement of 25 per cent of the renewal premium will be offered for expenses like consultation charges, medicines, diagnostic expenses and dental expenses not covered by the policy,” said Antony Jacob, CEO, Apollo Munich Health Insurance.
Jacob hopes the new product too to have a claims ratio of 60 to 65 per cent similar to the other products. After the select city launch on December 16, the company will be rolling out the product nationally next year. Plans are afoot to extend the same product for hypertension patients as well.
Seeing the enormous growth in the incidence of lifestyle diseases, the company also will not shirk the responsibility of offering other specialised products for the affected. At present, ‘optima restore’ is the fastest selling product of Apollo Munich.
Apart from the usual distribution channels of sales representatives and bank, the product will also be sold through pharmacy stores, hospitals and diabetes centres, he added.
