Apollo DKV Health Insurance, the joint venture between the Apollo Hospitals Group and DKV AG, Europe's largest private health insurer and a Munich Re Group company, is yet another contender in the high-potential health insurance space in India. As other big players make a beeline for the Indian market, the winds of change are brewing in the sector.

The government is planning to extend the government sponsored health insurance scheme, the Ras-htriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), to people above poverty line. Till date, the scheme covered only families below poverty line.

Apollo  DKV today announced the launch of formal business tie up with Health First, a  leading NGO engaged in providing basic healthcare in rural Asom. Through the  tie up, Apollo DKV plans to distribute affordable health insurance solution to  the people of Assam.Apollo DKV will build its own channels across the the State  in due course of time besides leveraging the tie up with Health First, who has  agreed to sell Apollo DKV's products to their members acting as an aggregator  and also, tie up with other similar NGO/MFI to aggregate the enrollment.
